The institution was created through the efforts of Stefan Woyda, who became its first Director, a post he held until his death in 2006. The Museum is housed in a historical outbuilding of the Potulicki Manor, a 19th-century palace-garden complex. The Museum\u2019s main mission is to explore and protect the unique on a Europe-wide scale pre-historical heritage of the\u00a0Mazovian Centre of Metallurgy \u2013 the second largest iron making centre of <em>Barbaricum<\/em>. From its earliest days, the Museum has focused its operations in three areas: academic, inventory and outreach. The first pillar consists of scientific, archaeological exploration of Mazovia\u2019s past. The second involves taking care of the institution\u2019s extensive collection acquired e.g. in the course of numerous excavation campaigns. The third encompasses all sorts of activities aimed at popularising cultural heritage among the Public. The MAMM is a cultural institution of the city of Pruszk\u00f3w and as such steps far beyond its archaeological profile and is deeply involved in the cultural life of the town. The Museum is a \u201cliving institution\u201d and thus a place open to the local Public, a venue for contact between the local community and scholars and art celebrities. The Museum also organises many events outside its walls. As part of its mission, the MAMM extends particular effort into protecting its collection of unique archaeological artefacts and organises many events to educate the Public and familiarise them with the Museum\u2019s collection. From the time it was established, the Museum has organised concerts of classical, chamber and jazz music, as well as exhibitions of modern art. An important date in the cultural life of Pruszk\u00f3w and its environs is the bi-annual archaeological festival \u2013 ARTEfakty.
